Conditions: Temporary tent structures (14 total) will be erected on campus to provide for COVID 19 testing as well as for overflow student dining and study space for the upcoming school year for a  period of up to 120 days.  The IFC limit per Indiana amendment is 30 days duration (model  code is 180 days).  

Seven (7) tent structures will be located at the COVID Response Unit (CRU) at Gate D at the  football stadium (which are a mix of 2- and 3-sided tents) - see CRU attachment for sizes  and mapped location.  Seven (7) additional tents will be located in strategic locations on  campus for student overflow dining and studying - these tent structures will vary in size  including 30 x 50, 40 x 80, and 85 x 115 and will be 3- and 4-sided structures.  Typical brand  is Losberger De Boer.

Facts: 1. The tent structures will be erected for a period of less than 180 days - the limit for  temporary tent structures in the International Fire Code.

2. The fabric structures will comply with NFPA 701 flame propagation criteria, as required.  

3. All tent structures will be located as required per Sec. 3103.8.2, IFC, with the exception of  tents at the CRU that are located in the open-air concourse at Gate D of the stadium.  

4. Means of egress will be provided as required per Sec. 3103.12, IFC. 

5. Tent structures will otherwise comply with all requirements of Sec. 3103 and all applicable  requirements of Sec. 3104, IFC.

Facts: The variance request is based upon public health and safety needs related to the COVID 19  Public Health Emergency.  The structures are necessary to execute the opening of campus  to students and faculty for the fall semester.
