Conditions: The Lilly Library is being renovated and the existing floor to deck elevations in the book stack  areas (levels 4-7) are restricted mostly below 7'-6". Ductwork is being installed in these  locations that will require the elevation of the bottom of ductwork to be below 7'-6". IBC  Section 1003.2 and 1208.2 both require 7'6" minimum. See attached documents for installed  ductwork elevations. Previous variance for low head clearance in another portion of building  was submitted for this project (19-12-18, supporting docs attached).

Facts: 1.  The building will be fully sprinkled with an NFPA 13 system as part of the project 
2.  The building will be protected with NPFA 72 fire alarm system with smoke detection  throughout as part of the project.
3. The commission has granted numerous variances for "low headroom clearance" under IBC section 1003.2 and 1208.2.
4. This was an existing condition, and the new ductwork is designed to be equal to or better  than (in regard to elevation) the existing ductwork installation (see attached pictures of  existing ductwork).

Facts: 1.  Modification of the ceiling height would compromise the structure of the building.
2.  The condition has existed since the building was constructed over 62 years ago. It is  impossible to alter the existing floor to floor height of multiple stories in this portion of the  building
