Conditions: The project involves a renovation of the existing high school. The doors to two restrooms will  not be provided with latches.  Code requires rooms to be separated from corridors with 1- hour fire partitions and 20-minute doors. Based upon the 20-minute rating, the corridor  doors are required to latch. 

The building is a high school, E/B Occupancy and Type IIB Construction.

Facts: 1. The existing restroom doors do not latch.   

2. The building has a fire alarm system with smoke detection in the corridors. 

3. Closers will be provided on the restroom doors.

4. Based upon the relative lack of fire hazard involved, the lack of latching doors on the rest  rooms will not be adverse to safety. Many variances have been granted to permit no door on  restrooms.

Imposition of the rule would result in an undue hardship (unusual difficulty)  because of physical limitations of the construction site or its utility services.
