Rule 4, Section 9(a), GAR
Conditions: Hoses will be removed from the standpipe cabinets located in the corridors and the fire  pump required to maintain the pressure of the standpipe system will be removed from the  existing building.

The building is an existing 4-story office building and approximately 5,200 square foot per  floor.

Facts: A hose connection will be provided in the cabinet for the fire department. 

There is a fire hydrant at the corner of the building and across the street.

The local fire department is not opposed to the variance based upon these facts, see email  from LFO attached. 

Similar variances have been granted in the past. 
DEMONSTRATION OF UNDUE HARDSHIP OR HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURE:
Imposition of the rule would result in an undue hardship (unusual difficulty)  because of physical limitations of the construction site or its utility services.
 
  Imposition of the rule would result in an undue hardship (unusual difficulty)  because of major operational problems in the use of the building or structure.
Y Imposition of the rule would result in an undue hardship (unusual difficulty)  because of excessive costs of additional or altered construction elements.
  Imposition of the rule would prevent the preservation of an  architecturally or a historically significant part of the building or structure
Facts: The hardship is the cost to replace the fire pump and maintain the fire hoses. The fire pump is no longer operational and is required to maintain the pressure for the standpipe system.  Occupants are not trained to use the fire hoses. Use of the fire hoses without proper training  could result in injury or cause the spread of fire.  The fire department will supply the fire hose  and fire pump via fire apparatus for firefighting operations.
