Conditions: The turnstiles installed at three (3) exterior exit locations on the 1st floor will not comply with  IBC requirements for revolving doors (mainly  collapsibility upon contact) - this is required for turnstiles more than 39 inches in height.  Actual height will be 62 inches - see attached cut  sheets.

The 5-story building includes office and assembly functions.

2= Applicant will undertake alternative actions in lieu of compliance with the rule to  ensure that granting of the variance will not be adverse to public health, safety, or  welfare.  Explain why alternative actions would be adequate (be specific).
Facts: 1.  The turnstiles will open upon fire alarm actuation.
2.  The turnstiles will fail open in the event of loss of power to the devices.  A battery back up  is provided in the event of loss of power to the building.  If power is not restored upon battery  exhaustion, the turnstiles will fully retract to permit free egress.
3.  The turnstiles permit two (2) 36-inch net clear openings at each of the exit locations,  exceeding required egress width.
4.  The two (2) enclosed stairs serving levels 2-5 have free egress to the exterior outside the  turnstile perimeter.
5.  The building is protected throughout with an automatic sprinkler system per NFPA 13.
6.  The proposed safeguards for the turnstiles exceed the minimum standards for revolving  doors used as a means of egress.
