Sauder Feeds, the owner, is a country grain mill that loads/unloads "pull-through trucks". An opening that meets code (max. opening 156 s.f.) will result in damage to the Fire Wall system and to the vehicles, and will ultimately threaten safety. The required larger opening 14'-0" X 14'-0" 196 s.f.) adds 40 s.f. to the size of the opening. The only other option is to add automatic sprinklers which is not feasible for numerous reasons. Both sides of the Fire Wall have numerous, well-marked, grade-level means of egress.

The feed mill is an unheated structure that includes a complex matrix of pipes, tubes, augers, chutes, and shafts at various elevations. The spaces include open areas where pallets of feed are stored and less open areas where mixing equipment, loading booms, and work stations are located. Attempting to install automatic fire suppression would be operationally challenging and very expensive.
