Conditions: The saw shop has been classified as woodworking, which triggers the greater than 2,500 sq ft sprinkler requirement in Sec. 903.2.4.1.  An automatic sprinkler system will not be provided.  The saw shop will utilize 2-3 compound miter saws to cut 2X dimensional lumber for use in  assembling roof trusses.

The project involves an addition of 1,440 sq ft for the saw shop, as well as a small scrap  wood storage addition of 240 sq ft.  The existing building (9,973 sq ft in area) will be used to  assemble wood trusses.  The truss shop operation is being moved into this building from the existing operation in Huntingburg.  
DEMONSTRATION THAT PUBLIC HEALTH, SAFETY, AND WELFARE ARE PROTECTED:

Facts: 1.  A dust collection system will be purchased for the saws to be used in the saw shop - see  attached cut sheet.  Note that since the cutting operation is less than 5,000 sq ft in area, it is  not covered by the scope of NFPA 664. 
2.  The sawing operation will not produce air-borne dust based upon the type of cutting  involved, and based upon the use of the proposed dust collection equipment.
3.  The building has less than 12,000 sq ft fire area, and is not otherwise required to have a  sprinkler system per Chapter 9, IBC.
4.  The building is within the allowable area of 14,875 sq ft for Type VB Construction, based  upon the F-1 Occupancy classification.
DEMONSTRATION OF UNDUE HARDSHIP OR HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURE:
Imposition of the rule would result in an undue hardship (unusual difficulty)  because of physical limitations of the construction site or its utility services.

Facts: The site does not have access to a public water supply.  The cost to provide an on site water  supply and provide sprinkler protection for the building is in excess of $150,000, which  exceeds the cost for this project.
