Rule 4, Section 12(d)
Conditions: Lockers will be added within corridors to accommodate an expected increase in enrollment.  State Code Enforcement has requested that a variance be filed to validate corridor width  requirement based upon egress capacity.  Corridors affected are 10 feet existing in width.   Rows of lockers to be placed alongside corridors in several locations will be 12 inches in  depth, reducing corridors to 9 feet in width.  Per the attached variance exhibit, the required  width of corridors will be maintained based upon required egress capacity.

Facts: 1.   Based upon an analysis of the calculated occupant load, corridor configuration, and  arrangement of exits, the minimum width of 6 feet for E Occupancy corridors will continue to  control the required corridor width in the building.  
2.    Corridors are without dead ends, and therefore in all cases permit travel in two (2)  directions to multiple exits.  As illustrated, the corridor width is required to be at least ½ of that  required for the occupant load served.  
3. A total of six (6) exterior exits serve the classroom wing affected by the locker installation.
4. The building is protected throughout with an automatic sprinkler system.
DEMONSTRATION OF UNDUE HARDSHIP OR HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURE:
Imposition of the rule would result in an undue hardship (unusual difficulty)  because of physical limitations of the construction site or its utility services.

Facts: The lockers are needed to accommodate an expected surge in enrollment in the coming year based upon Allen County school redistricting, as well as continued growth in the area in  upcoming years.
