Conditions: The variance request is to not maintain an existing sprinkler system in the building. Code  requires existing fire protection systems to be maintained in accordance with the code of  record.

The building was previously used to power the adjacent hospital building.  The boilers and  other equipment are being removed as part of the hospital demolition project, and the  building will be converted to a storage facility for the Saturday Evening Post.  The building  has 2 stories with approximately 8,448sf on the 1st floor and 2,905sf on the 2nd floor  (mezzanine).   The building will be classified S-1 Occupancy.

Facts: 1. The building will be used for overflow storage and will not be regularly occupied.
2. The building would not require sprinklers under current code (less than 12,000sf fire area).
3. Sprinkler heads will be removed.

Facts: Due to the proposed demolition of the hospital building, the water service to the sprinkler  system will no longer be available.  It is estimated to cost $150,000 to provide water connection to the system to maintain sprinklers.  Current code would not require sprinklers in the storage  building with less than 12,000sf fire area.
