Conditions: A new sprinklered coliseum building of Type I-B construction will have a portion of it's non- rated roof structure located less than 20 feet (14 feet) above the floor below and will have  exposed steel columns. The code requires the entire roof structure to be not less than 20  feet above the floor below to permit a non-rated structure. The code requires the columns to  be protected with a one-hour fire resistance rating.

2= Applicant will undertake alternative actions in lieu of compliance with the rule to  ensure that granting of the variance will not be adverse to public health, safety, or  welfare.  Explain why alternative actions would be adequate (be specific).
Facts: 1. The building will be protected by an automatic fire sprinkler system designed per NFPA 13,  2010 Edition.
2. The sprinkler density and spacing in the areas where the roof is less than 20 feet above the floor will have it's density and spacing increased from Ordinary Hazard Group 1 to Ordinary  Hazard Group 2.
3. The exposed steel columns will be protected by additional sprinkler heads located at the  columns designed to protect the columns.
4. Similar variances have been granted for other projects.
 
DEMONSTRATION OF UNDUE HARDSHIP OR HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURE:
