Conditions: Rolling security grilles will be utilized to secure the dining facility from unlawful entry after  hours.  A portion of the required egress width for the dining area (when considered fully  occupied) will be obstructed by the grilles.  Total required egress width is 246 inches.  The  egress width provided when security grilles are closed after hours is 144 inches.   Code  permits security grilles as designed only for Groups B, F, M and S Occupancies.  The  space is classified as A-2 Occupancy.
The existing 1-story + basement dining and food services commons is part of the 1960's era  Sycamore Towers.  The commons is centered among the four (4) connected residence  towers.  Sycamore Towers is constructed of a combination of cast-in -place and precast  concrete.  The project scope is a complete renovation of the existing dining and food  services area, and two (2) separate additions totaling 10,826 square feet of additional floor  area.

Facts: 1.   The dining hall will be protected throughout with a sprinkler system per NFPA 13 as part of  this project. 
2. The grilles will only be closed after dining hours, and will be open when the dining area is  occupied by other than staff.
3. The grilles will be openable from the inside without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort.
4. Four (4) separate exits are available from the dining area at all times, unobstructed by the  grilles.
