Facts: 1. The locker room has a calculated occupant load of 42, permitting a single means of  egress.  A single means of egress will be maintained during construction.  The door in  question will be restored to use upon completion of the project. 

2. Sec. 3311.2, exception, IFC, states that approved temporary means of egress systems
and facilities may be provided during construction.

Conditions: The 1-story fitness addition will be separated from the existing school building with a 2-hour  fire barrier in lieu of a fire wall. 

The addition will have 13,590 sq ft.  The addition will include a weight training area, cardio  area, rest rooms, and a small number of offices. The addition will be classified as E  Occupancy and Type IIB Construction.

Facts: 1. The fire barrier will consist of the cmu + brick exterior wall of the existing building.

2. 90-minute rated doors will be provided in the separation.

3. The addition will be structurally independent of the existing building.

4. The addition will be protected throughout with an automatic sprinkler system.

5. An identical variance was granted for another addition to this school in April of this year -  18-04-36. Other very similar variances have been granted for additions to schools over the  past 20+ years, including recently 18-02-49b, 17-10-30a, 17-02-49, 17-01-26, 16-10-33c, 16- 06-10c, 16-01-14, 15-10-29c, and 15-04-51b.
