New elevator being installed into EXISTING hoistway. Due to existing hoistway dimensions of 6'11" wide x 6'3" deep, the inside clear dimensions will not meet the minimum of 5'8" wide x 4'3" deep. Inside clear dimensions will be 5'3" wide x 4'3" deep. This is the largest that can be fit into the existing hoistway.

The only way to remedy this dimensional issue, other than a code variance, is to demolish the existing hoistway and significantly alter the surrounding structures in order to construct a larger compliant hoistway. This will come at substantial increased expense.
