Conditions: An existing A-2 Occupancy restaurant would like to expand the roof top dining area  experience with a new wood or charcoal burning grill (see grillwork¿s information attached).

Facts: 1.  The building is protected with an automatic fire suppression system per NFPA 13, 2010  Edition including conditioned spaces on the roof.
2. The building is provided with a fire alarm system including roof area.
3. Two enclosed stairs are provided from the roof. 
4. The main frame of the grill is constructed of 16gauge steel, the side and bottom is  constructed of 14 gauge and back plate is 7 
gauge.  The gauge of steel is equal to or exceeds the required gauges of a Type I exhaust  hood system.
5. The solid fuel is placed om a fire cage as it is naturally broken down dropping through the  open base of the cage to be spread    around the hearth  and under the grill surface. 
6. The current deck surface is a composite deck that will be covered with porcelain pavers  that have a Class A flame spread  per ASTM E108-11 ¿Standard method for Fire Tests of roof  coverings¿. The pavers will be under and extended a minimum of 10 feet from grill so that no  combustible surfaces are within 10 feet per Section 308.1.4 IFC. 
7. Grill will not be utilized if weather conditions forecast storms or winds exceeding 15 MPH.

Facts: The owner's undue hardship involves the desire for growth of the operation of the restaurant.  The grill will be a custom made grill with durability and safety in mind.
