Conditions: A trap seal primer valve will not be provided for floor drains throughout the building.

The project involves construction of a 4-story R-2 Occupancy housing facility of Type VA  Construction. The building will include student lounges and other amenity functions.

Facts: 1.  A barrier-type trap seal will be provided at each floor drain, complying with ASSE  (American Society of Safety Engineers Standard 1072.
2.  The barrier-type trap seal minimizes evaporation, meeting the intent of the code.
3.  The use of a barrier-type trap seal per ASSE 1072 is approved specifically by Sec.  1002.4.1.4 of the 2015 Edition of the International Plumbing Code.
