Facts: |
The purpose of the variance request is based on the testing criteria for obtaining a listing for the fire sprinkler. In order for the sprinkler in this case to be listed, it had to be fire tested in a test facility utilizing the type of construction that it was being listed for. For this listing, the test involved concrete ¿T¿ construction and obtaining acceptance for the sprinkler to preform properly under fire conditions when located under this type of construction. The test facility itself was limited to the length of 32 feet. Therefore, a limitation was added to the listing of the sprinkler to require a baffle to catch heat inside the concrete T at 32 foot distances. We maintain that sprinklers for this project will be spaced on along the 32 ft length and on both sides where a baffle would be installed, thus eliminating the need for a baffle. Essentially, installing a baffle requirement is due to the size of the testing facility and limitations of the concrete T¿s are based on the size of the test facility.

Facts: |
The requirement for installation of baffles is based upon the size of the testing facility. Providing baffles as well as sprinkler coverage will not provide any additional benefit, only added cost.
