Conditions: The theater will have concerts and events where smoke, fog, and haze is used (excludes  pyrotechnics). The variance request is to permit the theater to put the smoke detection  system in event mode during these performances. Code requires systems to be maintained  in an operative condition at all times.

Facts: 1. A rate of rise heat detection system will be provided in the stage area which will remain  operational at all times, this is not required by code. 

2. The building is protected throughout with an automatic sprinkler system per NFPA 13. The  sprinkler system will remain operational at all times.

3. A person will monitor the fire alarm panel and will be able take the system out of event mode if necessary. 

4. This has been reviewed with the local fire and building official, and they are not opposed to  the variance.
