Conditions: The existing sprinkler riser serving the physical education addition will have a total coverage  area of 55,372 sq ft.  Code limit is 52,000 sq ft for a light hazard occupancy system.
The project involves construction of a physical education addition of 23,548 sq ft to the  existing middle school.  A previous phase recently completed provided a sprinkler system  throughout the existing building.  There are two (2) separate risers provided in the existing  building.  The building is classified as E Occupancy and Type IIB Construction.
DEMONSTRATION THAT PUBLIC HEALTH, SAFETY, AND WELFARE ARE PROTECTED:

2= Applicant will undertake alternative actions in lieu of compliance with the rule to  ensure that granting of the variance will not be adverse to public health, safety, or  welfare.  Explain why alternative actions would be adequate (be specific).
Facts: 1.  The existing riser and system piping is designed to deliver the required flow and pressure  to the most remote point of the addition, as required.

2.  The sprinkler system will comply with all requirements based upon the demand for the  hydraulically most remote area, as required.

Imposition of the rule would result in an undue hardship (unusual difficulty)  because of physical limitations of the construction site or its utility services.
 
Imposition of the rule would result in an undue hardship (unusual difficulty)  because of major operational problems in the use of the building or structure.
