COURSE DESCRIPTION: This two day course expands upon the operations course and is designed for the ground search crew leader. The knowledge and skills topics covered in this technician course include: SAR management at the crew leader level, leadership for crew, strike, & task force leader, crew safety & crew leader equipment, stress management, advanced land navigation, nighttime land navigation & field exercises, ground crew search tactics leadership & management, negotiating hazardous terrain, and several outdoor mock search exercises as a crew-leader. This course is based on NFPA standards for searching rural and wilderness environments. Note: Since several field exercises are included in this course the student must come equipped with personal PPE and clothing for any weather and be prepared for physical exertion in the field. PREREQUISITES: * CPR & First Aid American Red Cross * SAR200 Ground Search Techniques III (Awareness) (will accept St. Vincent Wilderness Medical, NASAR 1, 2 or 3, SARTECH II) * SAR300 Ground Search II (Operations) * IS 100 (Introduction to Incident Command) * IS 200 (Basic Incident Command) * IS 700 (Introduction to NIMS) * IS 800 (National Response Framework-An Introduction) * Hazardous Materials Awareness (or FEMA online IS 005 An Introduction to Hazardous Materials) FEMA IS Online Course List * One of the following courses: 1. AWR-111or AWR-111-W Basic EMS Concepts for CBRNE Incidents 2. AWR 160-W WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency First Responders 3. AWR-160 or AWR-160-W WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency First Responders TEEX Online Course List 4. AWR-140 or AWR-140-W WMD Radiological/Nuclear Awareness Course CTOS Online Course List ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION: IDHS students will be allowed the use of the Civil Air Patrol trailers on base for lodging.
