COURSE DESCRIPTION: This two day class will help experienced K-9 teams in techniques used to locate live subjects and or human remains. Disaster training will cover vehicles, surface, buried, and elevated problems. Training will be hands-on with minimal classroom time. Scenarios and training exercises are set up based on the dog and handler¿s experience level. PREREQUISITES: * K9230-Basic Disaster Search Techniques for K-9s * K9330-Intermediate Disaster Search Techniques for K-9s * CPR & First Aid American Red Cross * Obedience & Agility (or equivalent) * One of the following courses: 1. AWR-111or AWR-111-W Basic EMS Concepts for CBRNE Incidents 2. AWR 160-W WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency First Responders 3. AWR-160 or AWR-160-W WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency First Responders TEEX Online Course List 4. AWR-140 or AWR-140-W WMD Radiological/Nuclear Awareness Course CTOS Online Course List * Hazardous Materials Awareness (or FEMA online IS 005 An Introduction to Hazardous Materials) * IS 100 (Introduction to Incident Command) * IS 700 (Introduction to NIMS) FEMA IS Online Course List * PPE for Rubble Search ¿ Handler must wear helmet, gloves, long pants/long sleeves, and safety toe/steel shank boots. Knee Pads are recommended. ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION: There is no charge for attending this course; however students will be responsible for their own travel, lodging and meals. Eligible students within each district should apply to their District Planning Council (DPC) for possible lodging reimbursement. Contact your county EMA director for information on DPC members. |
