notes COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This two day class is designed to introduce K-9 search teams to the specialized field of disaster response. Students will train in the areas of safety, agility, obedience, alert work, and drive building. Students will also have the opportunity to practice their skills on in the field.

PREREQUISITES:
- OBEDIENCE & AGILITY (or equivalent)
- IS 100 (Introduction to Incident Command)
- IS 700 (Introduction to NIMS)
- Weapons of Mass Destruction /terrorism AWARENESS (or equivalent)
- HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AWARENESS

RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITES:
K9200 BASIC AIR SCENTING TECHNIQUES FOR K-9 TEAMS and /or K9210 BASIC LAND CADAVER TECHNIQUES FOR K-9 TEAMS

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Handler must wear helmet, gloves, long pants/long sleeves, and safety toe/steel shank boots. Knee Pads are recommended.

ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION:
IDHS students will be allowed the use of the Civil Air Patrol trailers on base for lodging. Details will be listed in your course acceptance letter. Lodging will not be provided for students residing within 50 miles of the training location. Participants who reside over 50 miles from the training location are eligible for overnight lodging for courses which are more than one day in length. Only those participants who reside 75 miles or more from the training location are entitled to lodging the night before a course. Students must bring their own bedding.
